Our trip to Denmark (SW Australia) although overcast and rainy, presented us with opportunities like this, if one had the time and patience to creep up on these guys.......... we did.

These guys were busy with "house cleaning" which allowed us to get

just that little bit closer. This is a "straight from the camera" shot with a

slight crop off the top and resizing for PN. Your comments are always

welcomed.

Hi Grayham, I love the way each bird is facing in the opposite direction, adds a lot of interest to this shot. Terrific detail on the gnarled old tree they are resting in. Kind regards Louise

Man, I love this tree. And it's not necessarily an issue, but I find the tree so overbearing, that I loose interest in the Herons. It does make a great shot, just (to me) not a Heron shot. The tree takes you on an amazing adventure with your eye. Well done either way.

I think this is both a great portrait of a gnarled old tree and of two herons.   Very sharp and perfect exposure.  Great composition!  Nicely done, Grayham!

Best regards,

Dennis

Thank you. This was a real "lucky find" and an opportunity I could not afford to miss.

Yes the tree is something special.............

Grayham,

I like the rustic old "two story" perch you found here! We don't see many of those here in Kansas!

More on the serious note, . . . although the details in the tree are a little distracting, one can digest them pretty quickly and concentrate on the Herons. I too like that they are facing opposite directions, and the "two story" view really makes the photograph for me!

A stop well worth taking!

Regards always,

Jim j.

You are supposed to enthuse about the Herons, not the tree!!!! (smiles).

I see what you mean (in retrospect) I suppose I have seen these types of tree so often that I do look past them... I must remember that.

Nevertheless, I'm pleased that the image drew your attention, resulting in your kind comments.

Thanks for stopping by.

I was pleasantly surprised when this popped up on the computer. I was sure that either the tree or the herons would be OoF.... you know, DoF constraints.

So for once I got a bonus (smiles).

Thanks for your visit and comments.

Best regards

Thanks for stopping by......... I appreciate your comments.

Yes, a few commenters have mentioned the starkness of the tree distracting from the herons, and I accept that, but at the end of the day..... I shot what I saw.

Anyway, I just saw it as an unusual view (smiles).

Best regards

So sorry to have missed your comment some few weeks back. I'm not sure that the "notify me of comments" tab works effectively all the time.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your time in leaving your comments.... I always enjoy your visits.

Best Regards
