Wayne Sadler 562 Posted July 3, 2012 When I told a fellow photographer that I was looking for my ladder to get a better vantage point from which to photograph my few sunflowers, she said why not photograph them from below. I could have sworn I heard somebody in the background saying duhhhh. Anyway, when I discovered some sunflowers growing on a hillside bordering a hotel parking lot (my sunflowers have yet to bloom) I made several images from below. This image was educational for me. Comments and critique are welcome. Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted July 3, 2012 wayne, nice composition along with lovely colors, think just a wee bit more definition, mainly on the seeds would not go amiss. nice work. Link to comment
Wayne Sadler 562 Posted July 3, 2012 Thanks, Roger. I wished a bit more DOF. I didn't like the results of my sharpening tool. I think the newness of this view for me justified posting. I always appreciate your critique. Link to comment

sonneland 0 Posted July 3, 2012 wayne, i also agree the position which you shot flower is both unique and also interesting. image well worth posting. others may well find definition perfectly o.k. i just always look at a image and see what can be done to improve on it regardless of how good the image is. but on saying that am well aware my opinions are only from my point of view, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Wayne Sadler 562 Posted July 4, 2012 Patsy,Thanks. Keep your sunflowers coming. They are educational for me. Roger,You "see" very well. And your critique of this image is spot on. In fact where I see you comment on any image on PN, I pay attention. Thanks. You help improve the art. Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted July 4, 2012 wayne, by far to flattering. have a wee story similar to how you felt when was suggested you shoot from below. i have been taking flower images for a few years now, the first year i never picked flowers, just worked in the garden. one day it was like the lord spoke to me, he said pick the flower and move it to a situation you like. since that day working with flowers has became immensely easier. most of my work has to do with light and i use a lot of back-lighting is just so much easier when you take the subject to the right situation, rather than having to find the right situation in the garden, sometimes you just never find it. the people that do their work in public parks or gardens i just take my hat off to them, they are at such a disadvantage.
