Clearly she is a subject worth capturing. However I think her placement in the frame is a problem. She is too central and the dome in the background fights for visual domination. I think experimenting with cropping would yield a stronger image.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time...

It almost seems like there's too much sky in the photo, and not a terribly interesting sky to look at, but I can see where losing much more sky would crop your tower. What you did is a great compromise between the different elements present in the shot.

The compositional suggestions aside, you caught the Paris I will remember until the day I die. I haven't been in 20 years but its the most vivid, alive place I've ever been. What made it so alive were people like this. Even in the dead of winter, you saw such striking individuals who radiated something that you couldn't take your eyes off of. All striking and all very individualistic. New York and London come close, but nothing is like Paris and nothing is quite like Parisians. The compositional issues to me are all secondary given the wonderful spirit you caught here. I love what it conveys.

Fantastic photo opportunity!! I think a crop would be good however I like the lines of the lamps on both sides and cropping would ruin it. I love the expression she has, and you have really caught movement and humour in the shot. Like Andy said, the Parisians really are quite unique.

Norbert, Jerry, Joshua, Matt, Bridget and Andy.

Jerry, I thought she might be too much in the middle of the frame as well, but I had little time especially as I didn't know if she would mind the camera. (I thought, but will never know if she was 'all there', that's why I named it as such!)

Matt, do you think maybe a slightly darker sky would work better?

Bridget and Andy, this is a moment grab-shot, learning fast from Andy doing Streets! But scare stiff all the time of people's reactions.

Thank you everyone, this was a little fun.

I think the bags contain her harlequin costume and props and she's on the way to La Comedie Francaise -- not as a touriste, but as an artiste. Then again, maybe she's just on her way to Gare de Lyon. Guess we'll never know. I do know that Paris in the springtime usually puts a smile on my face too.

I thought people who rate 1's needed to explain? Or have I got it wrong? Also wonder why drive- by low raters seem never to have a folder?? Hmmm.

Audrey my friend, you've fallen victim to the idiot element of Photo.net. No worries though, consider it a rite of passage as you venture through the place I call the happy swamp. I bet that if you confronted Lacey with her (his?) rating, the response would be along the lines of, "Duh, uh..." The rating of 1 isn't so much a reflection of the photo as much as it is a reflection of the rater's IQ.

Hello Andy, I never mean to get caught up with the 'ugly' side of the 'happy swamp' as you put it. But do find it strange that more often then not, the low rate and run people seem not to have anything in their folders. This image was put up in the spirit of FUN, to share with you the magic of Paris - no more or less, why can't people hang loose, and take it at face value?

Interesting street shot. On the aesthetical side, I agree that the sky colors are a tad dull.

I don't care that much about the centric position of the lady, after all the image is off centered with the lamp row on the right. The dome in the background accentuate the feeling of beeing in a majestous place; anyway some dof to split the woman from the background could add some depth to the image.

Terrific capture. Good sharp colors and she stands out as the subject because of her colorfull dress.

You did not mention the Optic which you used! I just wounder how you could succseed in having this DOF, even though it looks at least a litte (or more!) tele. Due to the lamps the position of her is very correct, for me!

Nestor, Margaret, Jeremy and Axel for taking the time to comment.

Nestor, I don't much like the sky either, but it was the best outcome using levels.

Axel, my camera was already set on manual with smallest aperture(F8 Sony F717) when I spotted the lady. No tele attached, just got lucky.
