Splendid green on green, a regal forest and an inviting road.. It couldn't be better...  Mike

I much prefer this one to the other one with the road in it, and I am trying to figure out why ... I think it is because the road does not take up quite as much space in the photo, for me the green is much more present. As well, in the other photo it almost looks as if the road winds on a bit and then stops (which of course it doesn't). Here it takes an almost surprising swerve to the left and leaves me wondering what is around the bend. Great shot!!!

Otto and ML, thanks for the comments.  It's true this composition has less road in it, which is why I made a comment somewhere that I wish this had been a trail rather than a road.  This version also has a dominant tree, and the road curves out of sight in a more apparent manner.  The compositions end up being different in several significant ways, even though they may be separated by only a short distance.

I also seem to like this better than the other one because of the presence of the road that brings me into the photograph. But other than that technically, this is probably the most crisp image I have ever seen and I seem to know why after seeing what equipment was used here.

I could look at this image for so long and my eyes won't get tired. Best regards, Stephen.

Hi Stephen- Like Otto my eyes are drawn into the curving road like any curve you wonder what lies ahead, probably more curves, left & right, up down. The road quickly becomes secondary to the old growth forest with the lush green growth which, as usual you have captured as a very appealing visual treat for the viewer.Expect you give thanks every day to those upstairs who provide the wonderful rain.. I especially like your image in the large size, it seems more real & you feel as being part of the scene .Also, I believe I saw an animals head in the image. Best Regards-Ross

I have never been to the old growth forests of the Pacific North West, but I recognize the remarkable quality of light from my visits to the coastal redwood forests of northern California. A living green forest is so difficult to photograph, and you have managed it so well!

Patsy, A.K., Lester, Ross, and Mikhail, thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.  Lester, the biggest difference I've noticed with this camera is the incredible dynamic range it is able to capture; that has really made a difference in some compositions.  Ross, I now live on the dry, eastern side of the state, and I miss not having these areas close to my house; however, four months of nearly steady rain in the winter months can be monotonous.  Also, I've seen very few animals during my many visits here.  The woods are very dense with lots of downed trees, and I suspect most of the animals stay up on the hillsides where it is easier to move about.  Mikhail, I love the redwoods, especially those in northern California.  But the challenge is the same:  how to find an aesthetically pleasing composition in that messy tangle of vegetation.  I simply love searching for those compositions.
