Minute after this shot a heavy stormy rain started, giving me just enough

time to pack the camera and put the rain cover, leaving tripod in that heavy

rain! Minutes before that, all children had gone...

As you are well aware photography is all about timing and light and you have read the signs correctly and  reacted quickly enough to take advantage of the situation. The composition is key to the success of this shot and the close proximity of the boat curving into the shot acts as a leading line as well as providing interesting foreground material. Not quite as easy as you have made it look, because  the height of the camera in relation to the boat here is also key to the image looking right. Although it might be preferable in some ways to have a lower perspective to hide the white object on board, I think it would spoil the shot as it would render the stern of the boat too high and alter the well balanced position in the frame. All this to think about, but no doubt you acted instinctively and managed to capture the mood and drama of the prevailing storm perfectly!   Very well done Hamid!

Best Regards

The scene is very captivating, Hamid. I could see and feel the rain as it drops down on the right side of the horizon and the cloud formation on the left is a perfect demonstration of contrast of the prevailing circumstances. The boats complete the excellent image and the small red boat is an icing on the cake.

Beautiful work. Warm regards!

Despite the coming storm, the scene is so tranquil at that moment.   The boats are just so right.  Love your vantage point and also the soft light on the sand to the right.

Excellent !

Thank you for your positive feedback and insightful comments, much appreciated.

Alf, one of the main problems for me setting up composition with 16-35 ultrawide fx lens and a crop sensor of 7D is limitation of elements in a landscape scene like this. Right side of the far storm was also very beautiful indeed, and initially i wanted to include both sides, but in expense of the fg boat. Other options were taking two horizontal pano shots of the sky and fg. But the rain started and i ended up with this shot.

ps, my problem is going to end, i very recently bought 5D mark III, and taken some test shots. An amazing body actually.

I think Alf explained the composition best Hamid. I really love the deep tones in the colours (very rich) and I have to say, I have never seen a sky like this one. I have seen rain coming but not this close. Fabulous timing and you had the last bit of light that has worked perfectly, before the storm reaches the shor. Lovely work Hamid.  Most sincerely, Gail

Good Morning Hamid, Your composition is first rate with the boats and rocks all leading us to the water. The sky appears as a ominous almost terrifying presence above the boats on the water. The water and sky almost seem like two images in one with the rain side appearing slightly calmer. All things considered I too would head for shore. Thanks for an exciting photograph. Take care.

Holger
