I've always leaned toward portraits, but I've always thought still

life was challenging because one attempts to take an everyday item

(plastic flowers) and make it look interesting. I'm looking forward

to comments since I'm a newbie at this side of photography.

I too lean more towarda portraits and it is very rare that still lifes appeal to me unless real close macros, but this picture caught my eye as browsing through top rated photos. That in itself is a strong point. I love th soft warm glow of lighting that you have used. The framing is wonderful and they appear to be real flowers - VERY nice. I also agree when you can take something very ordinary and create either something beautiful or interesting - you have done well. And you, have. Beautiful still life - hopefully on my first attempt at still life, I too will be this successful.

You have to be kidding me. This is rather excellent for a first attempt at still life. It has a stock photo quality about it and could be sold quite easily.

Lighting and framing is very nice, I would not change a thing.

Oh, no relation to Jamie Oliver, but the Swedish Chef might be quite close to the mark - I'm just a Muppett.

Very good for the first attempt and this difficult subject. I'd give a little more space from at least 3 sides, but especially the right side. The left corners seem slightly "overvingetted". I think the double framing is an overkill.

I agree with the framing comments, a bit too much. I think it would be just fine without the outside brown border, but that's not why I'm commenting...it's a fantastic image and I had no idea they were plastic flowers until I read your first comment. I like the vignetting around the top but find it a bit distracting on the lower left. A very fine first attempt!
