A bit of information.

This is a view of the city of Lecco, a county capital town in Lombardy, a region in the northern area of Italy.

Lecco is on the south-eastern shores of the Lake Como, famous for villages like Bellagio and Cernobbio and, of course for Como, the Lecco's sister town situated on the south-western shores of the lake.

The mount on the center-right, partially covered by the maritime pine, is very famous in Italy because of a XIX century poetry by Giosué Carducci. It's the Mount Resegone (the name is a dialectal italian form means "big saw").

Hope you like this place that I love very much.

I always ask ratings for my pictures because I think that numbers represent the synthesis and don't lie. And, on the other hand, I've always tried to understand why a picture gets high or low ratings and frequently I've admitted that there were more than one reason for that, even if I was expecting a different result.

This picture, as far as I'm writing, has obtained 7 ratings averaging 3.71 that means "below average". I have some problem understanding this statement: the picture is perfectly in focus; the exposition is well calibrated and both in the shadow and in the lights one can read all the details; the colors and their saturation are equilibrated; the composition respect the most fundamental rules of standard composition: there is a foreground and a background; the main subject is nicely framed by the secondary subject; the horizon line is horizontal and the main purpose of the picture is, with self-evidence, illustrative or documentary.

I'm perfectly apart that it's not a WOW!!! picture, the picture that one has not taken and would have had or would like to take before die, and actually I do not expect for such a picture any six or seven, but can't understand the meaning of the threes. In my opinion 4.5-4.8 is the right rating and this, according to the semantic of numbers fixed by the elves, this means that I consider this picture more than average and less than good. What do you think?

Mauro

PS: to be clear the question I'm raising is not strictly related to this picture, but to the rating system in general. Do you think I should move this comment in a forum article?

E poi tutti contiamo poco. Contiamo 1. E' il bello e il brutto dell'egualitarismo. Mannaggia! eheheh
