View larger. This amazing rainbow is a consolation prize at Lake

Matheson, New Zealand. We hiked the lake hoping to get a reflection of

Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, but were underwhelmed by socked-in

clouds. Nature said, no deal. Then on our return to dinner we were

dazzled by this double rainbow. Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks. Larry

Margo,

Thanks for your comment.  This is an HDR experiment.  I hope it is not too surreal.  The non-HDR image is more brown and in some ways more dramatic even though the rainbow is less bright.  Best to you.   Larry

Larry, this has got to be one of the brightest rainbows ever seen, but what I like even better is how the sunlit trees contrast against the dark sky behind them.  Great work.

Lannie,   Thanks for your visit and comment.  This is one of the best rainbows I have encountered.  The moral of the image is that we get what nature deals us. We went to this site to photograph a reflection of Mount Cook (the hightest peak in New Zealand) on Lake Matheson, about a forty minute hike from the car park.  Obviously, it was cloudy and overcast, but we went anyway figuring the sky might clear enough to get an image.  No such luck.  When we returned we were treated to this double rainbow.  I did get a shot of the entire rainbow, but prefer this one for the reasons you mentioned.  Thanks for looking and offering your compliments.  I hope your summer is bearable with all the humidity y'all get.  Best to you.  Larry
