Please view this image larger. Weather and light changes constantly

here. This image was taken a little after the sunny one also posted. As

always, I appreciate your taking the time to comment. Thanks. Larry

Beautiful soft colors. I've seen this landscape in grey tones only, rain rain rain!

cheers

Very beautiful landscape shot! The light is perfect. It is as if the hill were a beacon of hope in an inaccessible landscape. If I were playing around with the image, I would probably look and see if a touch more sky would bring out the grandeur of the mountain a bit more - but that is by no means certain and the image does have an amount of tension that results from the contrast between the "closed-in" mountain and the open spaces in the foreground. Or, to put it more to the point: super work!

Sam,

Hi, Sam.  Thanks for your comment.  Yes, New Zealand seems to be the land of rain.  Perhaps that's why the Maori call it Aotearoa or the long white cloud.  I appreciate your remark about light because we all know that light is everything in creating images and as tourists we get what's there without a chance to choose our light.   Thanks. Larry

Otto,

I appreciate your thought about revealing more sky.  I tried this in the sunny version of Mitre Peak next to this one.  Personally, I prefer this shot as the other is a bit too harsh.  But, you make a good point.  Thanks.  Larry

Effim,

Thanks for your comment.  I moaned throughout our trip that I didn't get any really great images.  Given the weather and light conditions, I am now fairly satisfied.  Thanks for looking at my images.  Larry

Yes, I like this one better in terms of the light and cloud definition, and the foreground layers are interesting too. I might have been tempted to get a bit closer to those pools to capture the reflections, but thats because I'm somewhat obssesed by reflections, there is nothing wrong at all with this shot. I don't know about New Zealand being the land of rain, it would have to go some to beat the UK. Another really beautiful image Larry. Well done!

Best Regards

Alf

Alf,  Thanks.  Any closer and I'd have been one wet camera guy.  I would have loved to get close in to the foreground pools. Re the rain, remember New Zealand was tied to the UK in its past history.  We saw several Brits there.  The trip involved about 24 hours of flying for them.  Their arms got so tired they needed to rest in Singapore.  Here's to a dry summer.

Larry, this is much better than mine. The same time of day, but a better break in the clouds to let the evening sun through. And better technique. Regards, Adrienne

Hi Adrienne,  Thanks for your comment.  I actually took this in the late morning.  It was after our cruise right before we left for a long drive to Dunedin.  Thanks for keeping your eye on my NZ portfolio.  I am adding a few shots every couple of days.  How is your winter so far?   Larry

You got some super colour into this one and a nice splash of light on the peak.  I very much like the low viewpoint.

Thanks, by the way, for the comments on my Milford shot and others.

Ross,

Thanks, Ross.  We try to take a nice trip about once a year.  Like with other travelers, we are in the hands of nature for weather and lighting conditions.  I prefer cloudy days with sun that sneaks into the scene.  I appreciate your comment.  Larry

Thank you for sharing your vision.

Yes, I was wondering if it is the same spot as the sunny one.

I find it more creative to work with the coudy sky, as here.
