On an LED monitor I can just begin to see the woman in your image---on my ancient CRT I can't see her at all.  I ran shadow-highlights on your image so I could see the elements you put together.  I can't comment on your original image because there is not enough there. The lighter version the image is possibly a humorous take on how much easier it is today to make a self portrait than in the medium format days.  Having her lips removed does not compute.  This image looks like an exploratory and experimental effort.  Some images are taken for ourselves and have meaning, but an image like this in a public forum is not going to be treated kindly in the critique department.  You have many images in your galleries that would qualify as fine art but, in my opinion, this is not one of them---but then I don't think I am telling you anything that you don't already know.

You did something very unique here and I love it and hope it is the start of a new direction. I love Noir images as you know and this is a beauty. I hope to be competing with a friend on mine in NSW Australia on the very subject and would love to have you in the mix.

Well done my friend and I look forward to more Noir.

John, I have never been a great judge of my own images and that is why I post them here. The fact that you have gone to a great length to comment on something you don't like is quite humbling. My eyes are not perfect but I can clearly see what is going on here. Her lips are not removed, they are covered with something. I would suggest you get your monitors calibrated as the girl is quite visible to me.

This is an image I love myself. I appreciate that you don't. Thanks for taking the time.

Owen, I am genuinely glad you like this. It appears not everyone does judging by the ratings. John may have a point. I am not sure it is a new direction for me. That said, I do like the result.

I have to be honest, I don't know your friend in NSW and so please enlighten me.
