sonneland 0 Posted June 11, 2012 emmanuel, so much to like here, starting with fading stem before reaching frames edge. moving up flower, your focal point to me at least is strongest single element of image. large enough to highlight flowers curling edge along with lines down body of lilly. really like how focal point turns soft following edge around flower. backside softness helps emphasize focal area. b/g another strong element, cloudy area gives flower a feeling of distance between itself and said b/g. sometimes i think we use black b/gs a bit too much, is always nice to see a bit of variation. you mr.enyinwa are doing some really nice work with the matriarch of the garden. i could look at images of these wonderful flowers all day long. Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted June 11, 2012 Thank you so much for your detailed, nuanced, and remarkably helpful critiques of my flower pictures. Coming from someone I looked up to for several years here at pnet due to the strength of your portfolio, it certainly means a lot to me. I note that this image has the left-right orientation you asked me to consider on the other color image, "Morning Light". In fact, I did consider rotating that image as well before posting it, but ultimately did not like that look on the other flower. This one, the image just flows more naturally left to right, and is exactly the way I saw the flower in the garden. Unfortunately, almost all the lilies are gone now, and I regret not making more hay while the sun shone, but, as we say in sports, there is always next year. Regards. Link to comment
llgarcia 1 Posted June 12, 2012 I also seem to like the format and orientation that goes well with the shape of the flower. The softness too enhances the beauty of the floral structure. Beautifully presented.Congrats, Emmanuel Link to comment
richard_john_edwards 0 Posted June 12, 2012 Emmanuel, What a gracious image. The composition is perfect as is the format selection. The tones are delicate and precise. The light, giving the transparancy to the front element of the flower is GOLD, it reveals subtle details in the structure of the plant, The exclusion of colour allows us to explore these details without being bombarded with additional information, the colour. The choice of apperature is perfcet, the details are where they should be, enough to show the structure and form of the flower. It also gives the separation needed to define the flower. In My opinion for what its worth, this is EXCELLENT WORK and is rated accordingly.Best regards,I shall now explore your folio. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted June 14, 2012 I'm not all that captivated by flower pictures usually but this is far more than that. It is a fresh perception and excellent capture of the form of the flower. Most often we repond to the stored image of "flower" with all its related assosciations that we carry around in our brains rather than the living actuality of the flower itself. This is a good example of how intelligent photography can lead to a new appreciation of things. Link to comment
