Kenneth I like the composition and the beautiful lightning in this image. The saturation and contrast seem to be spot on. However, I find the lack of sharpness a bit disturbing. Have you used an extender for this image?

No Magnus, no extender. I would never use one, due to sacrificing sharpness. So therefore I'm suprised that you find it shockingly lacking in detail?! It's not tact sharp, but not that bad is it? One thing I have started doing witch will help all my shots, but contrasted ones like this is shooting my 50D with the noise reduction turned off, then in Canon Digital Pro adjusting the darker noise only. It has increased the detail like in my recent Yellowthroat post. This shot was cropped as well, but I wonder if something else is causing a loss in detail that I'm not catching?
