You got the point of focus just right, the individual facets of the eyes are tack sharp. The depth of field is a bit too shallow, but that's difficult to overcome at these magnifications. The only thing I really think could have been done better is the post processing. You over sharpened, causing the grainy look to the out of focus areas. You could either sharpen less or use a filter after sharpening to blur the grain back out.

I like the image Gillie. The eyes have it! I also learned a great process from the previous comment by Siegfried on filtering out the grain effect of over sharpening. Thank you both for sharing. regards. Bob

Thanks to you all for your encouragement, particularly to Siegfried for explaining to me where the grain had come from!  I did filter out quite a bit, but obviously not enough!  I hope to have fun with this lens, so all help gratefully received - Gillie
