Taking early morning hill in the hills of Scotland. Wet and foggy

kind of morning, but the sun was trying and did break through.

I cropped the FG, thinking a square format may give a feeling of

width.

I like it! I think the square cropping's a brilliant idea- to me, it helps unite the elements in the image, the clouds the stillwater, and the mountains. I'm envious you've had the chance to catch such a wonderful frame :)

Congratulation, it is a very nice foto. I like the reflection. Perhaps you could crop a little more from the top part. (The sky is a bit dull there.)

Ryan and Nabil, thank you both for your kind words. I feel lucky to have been there!

Nabil, you are right, a little more off the top would have been a good idea.

I like square format, but as you've stated, more off the top will focus the eye more into the valley. Nice.

I like the square format. The sweep of fog in the sky is interesting and would be less well defined if the top were cropped off. Beautiful, serene image.

I agree with Patricia, if you crop off the top you must be careful not to crop too much, you might destroy the border (top left) of the big foreground cloud).

But I don't feel a crop is needed. I don't need my eye to be guided into the valley here. My eye is playing with the curves of this photo, I'll save the valley trip for another shot... ;-)

The cloud line mirroring the curves of both mountains and their reflexions. The grass in the water echoing the shape of the cloud. So for me this is a picture about lines (curved lines) and I like it as it is.

Neil, Patricia and Ilan, thank you for taking the time on this image. I made a print of the image to see if the top could benefit from some cropping. In print, the (top-left) cloud came out darker, a bit stronger. I have a feeling if any more was cropped, the top half of the image may become too light and the image weakened.

I'm glad you're shying away from the crop because I think you would be doing damage to already quite nice composition here. The squarish crop seems well-suited to the subject and, as Ilan suggested, the lines of the hills are more than strong enough for the eye to follow into the valley. Its wonderful and very atmospheric. What I particularly enjoy is the interplay between the reflection and the reeds in the lake, along with the dramatic mists rolling down the hills. Very nice work Audrey.

Audrey, I wouldn't touch it! It is perfect as is. A very atmoshpheric image, I can almost imagine being there. Great!

Lovely scene Audrey, reminds me of the weather here. Very moody. That's one way to take advantage of those miserable white skies.

Perfect as it is. The open space is exhilarating. I'm tired of perfetc mirror image shots. This shot is a breath of fresh air. pun intended. Congrats on a great shot.

So, this is what my macnaughtan ancestors faced when they went to gather the sheep on the shore Loch Tay.

Lovely image.I really like the contrast between the mist shrouded distant hills and the detailed foreground hill.

Lovely misty hills and easy viewing natural colors in the reflections. I can relate to this, its real.

I would like to see the crop. If you cropped right to the top of the mountains, then the size and shape of the lake would be very similiar to the size and shape of the sky. But, the rectangle shape does not suit it as well as the square format. What to do, what to do? Leave as is and go with your own feelings on it every time!

Now I think I will just enjoy this easy viewing for a bit more.

Beautiful shot. I took some similar (but not nearly this good) a few years ago in Scotland. Congratulations!

cropping choice seems excellent to increase the already strong effect
