This image is from a recent trip to the Eastern Shore. I like the

composition and lighting, but how could it be better? This was a

quick shot handheld with a Leica P&S. Any comments welcome.

The composition blew me away. I don't really know how you can improve it though - it might be nice if we saw the rest of the house with the balcony and the girl's shadow looks slightly cut off.. but those are so minor in comparison to the overall impact of the image.

I agree with the other comment - the only obvious improvement is in the top right corner, but it's not really critical. Excellent work.

Is the sand actually in mid-air? If so, then I suppose in an ideal world the ball would be too (or I'd exchange the floating sand for a floating ball). But we don't live in an ideal world, at least those of us who like to take spontaneous shots of people don't, and this is pretty damn good.

Thanks for your comments and feedback. Jonathan, to answer your question, yes, the sand is being thrown in the air by the child. I agree with you 100% that had I got this about 1/100th of a second later, both the sand and the ball would be clearly airborne, and it would be more dynamic.

Most of what I wanted to say has been said. What I really like about this photo is that in spite of the fact you had very harsh sunlight, you have still managed to capture all the faces in this photograph.

I don't think you can improve shots like this. You really only have one chance to get them. You either get a good shot or you don't. You got a good one.

Please feel free to rate / comment on / critique any of my photos.

Excelent shot. The dramatism given by the harsh sunlight and the diagonal of characters are a excelent combination. I would have liked though the horizon to be a little lower.
