Nice shot Kenneth.  Good color and pose.

 

Just a few thoughts on photographing these flying critters: In SW Ohio, I have as many as ten male and often as many female cardinals perching at once on my bird feeders (or nearby) in the back yard, just a few feet from the woods in back.  I draw them in with a large feeder which holds black oil sunflower seeds, and a second feeder which holds a seed mix.  If you set it up correctly, with cover nearby and branches for them to sit on in the clear, getting shots of these guys is easier.  Also, provide water in a shallow bird bath.

Dennis, thanks. I just was trying before to go out in the wild and call them in, but they were too paranoid to get a close shot. This time, I called from under a blind where I had just seen them in the area, but they hadn't spotted me. They were quite fooled for some time.
