Please view this image large. Devil's Punchbowl is in New Zealand's

Arthur's Pass National Park. New Zealand has a wonderful respect for

preserving its land and nature, and national parks protect vast amounts of

the county. This is a detail view of a large and dramatic waterfall that

requires an 800 meter, but not too strenuous, climb to a viewing platform.

I was fascinated by this tree hanging in mid air over the middle portion of

the falls. Your comments are much appreciated. Thanks. Larry

larry,  another image of one of my favorite waterfalls.  did you spend most of your time on the south island? kiwis who live on the south island refer to it as the mainland.  the north island is o.k. but no comparison to south island at least as far as nature is concerned. we run a b&b and being as were in the middle of the two islands get lots of guests either coming or leaving one of the two islands.  its just uncanny how always the ones arriving on the south island are just so full of expectations and happy,  while the ones leaving are a bit sad and not so happy.  lovely image!

p.s. if you should ever come back come and pay us a visit,  can show you some really magical places to visit with few tourist.

Larry, I wish I had taken this! Didn't even get there this time actually. And our unplanned evening rush to Milford Sound got us there a bit late to look for the best spot before the light went! AG

Adrienne,   Hi - This devil's punchbowl is my wife's favorite image from our trip. Thanks for looking at it.  You must have gotten some good late evening shots at Milford Sound.  I am impressed with all of the land that NZ has preserved as national parks. Your respect for the ecology of your country should serve as a lesson to so many others.   We leave for my daughter's wedding on Wednesday.  After we get back next week, I'll post more images.   Best regards.  Larry

Matthew,   Hi. Thanks for your comment on this image.  It is an amazing natural wonder, well worth the climb to see it.  We met several people from Australia while in NZ.  This was our first trip to the South Pacific.  Talking to people from different countries gave us a perspective on your part of the world. We also developed a new found appreciation for the ocean.  Regards.  Larry

Larry, waterfalls are often tough to photograph.  I think you have done a nice job showing the vastness of this falls, and the exposure is nice.  I really like the shape of the branch in the middle, although it would have been nicer, perhaps, if it wasn't so central.  Regards, Jeff

Thanks for the comment, Jeff.  We like this image a lot too.  I have a full shot of the falls from which I can try out putting the tree off center.  I appreciate your perspective.  Larry

Ann,   Thanks again, Ann for looking at my images.  I will peruse yours as well.  The climb up to this viewing platform was quite a hike and well worth dragging my stuff up the 800 meters or whatever they said the climb was.  Best to you. Larry
