Often found sitting, while the rest of the family unit move and play

around him, Santan is a large male orang-utan from Melbourne zoo.

Please help the endangered Sumatran orang-utan by not buying products

with palm oil.

Thanks for your thoughts

Once again, superb image of the "Man of the forest"! Interesting to note that in Malayan language Orang means person..;)

Your photographic work on Orang Utans is emotionally poignant for me. Surely, I stand up for saving endangered species such as the Sumatran Orang Utans from the cruelty of palm oil and pulp and paper industries in Sumatra and Borneo. Being fully aware of the massive rainforest destruction and its wildlife going on there, it is my duty when I shop to read my ingredients before I buy…
Art, your work deserves to be praised! You have my admiration and of course my gratitude!

Anabela addressed the issue of the endangerment so well. Her travels have always been a 'marvel' to me. She has seen so much of the world (and not by way of Cruise Ships !) I admire her sense of adventure and courage to do all that she has accomplished. This image is such a fine capture, it made me 'chuckle' - 'ponder' and truly wonder what Santan is thinking about. You capture such 'soul' in these image Art. Bravo once more for bringing to us an amazing composition. I think the Title of this Folder is most appropriate.

Best regards,Gail

Thank you Anabela and Gail. Your thoughts are welcomed and your accolades towards my work encouraging. Anabela, I'm very glad to hear your efforts towards conservation of these magnificent animals. Although I've use the Sumatran orang-utan as a means to share that conservation message, the threat of palm oil plantations also threatens the habitats of the Sumatran Tiger and other sub species. Although I appreciate and share, to a large degree, your views towards these animals being in captivity, Melbourne zoo has also done a lot to highlight the plight of these and other animals and so from that perspective I see some validation in the zoo's existence.

Gail, as always your thoughts are carefully considered and presented. Thank you for your continued support. As for Santan? I can only wonder what was going through his mind with that facial expression :)
