This is a neat image but you could have done well to have used "spot" metering to obviate the "brighter vs darker" exposuring. In PSE, I just effected a "quick and dirty" autofix to lighten the subject and darken the background. With the facial shadow removed, the clarity you have captured is very good.... so congrats.
