Kabood or Jahanshah Mosque-Tabriz

Tabriz with a thousand years background in poetry and literature,

politics, culture, art, science and industry and the Kabood Mosque is

one of the great works in this area which is also called the

"Turquoise of Islam" in the Muslim world. According to the

inscriptions on its head, it was made in the year 870 AH by "Jahanshah

King " the most powerful ruler of "Gharaghoyounloo" who was a poet,

friendly and nice. Jahanshah’s tomb and his relatives are located at

the end of a bedchamber in the basement of the mosque. Variety and

subtlety of Tile works and different types of lines that are used in

and the beauty and harmony of colors in this mosque caused the

Turquoise of Islam. Tile works are only blue and most of its parts

are hexagonal all the ceiling is painted of Zarnegar (gold painting

with water) and also the bedchamber was made by marble

The main building of the mosque and tomb has a large courtyard which

was a collection of buildings, including schools, baths, built the

monastery and library that there is no sign of it now.

The Earthquake that happened in 1193 AH caused the collapse of the

domes and its failure. Although there is no sign of this monument

except its beautiful broken head door and some stands, the repairing

and re-building of the mosque in order to protect the remaining parts

of the arch and the foundation began in 1318. The reconstruction of

its arches began in 1354 by the protection office of monuments. This

mosque was registered in national monuments in 1310 AH.
