Pierre Dumas 285 Posted May 26, 2012 I believe it is a dog rose flower, if I'm wrong, please correct me!Thank you for your attention Dear colleagues!PDE Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted May 26, 2012 It may be just a blossom to some but to you, I'm sure it's a sculptural work of art Link to comment
leo burkey 0 Posted May 26, 2012 This is one beautiful flower and you did it fine job in your presentation here. Pierre, I think this could also be a good candidate for the Pixel Bender. Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 285 Posted May 26, 2012 Thank you Jack, thank you too Leo! Leo, you mean something like this? It's nothing much I think! Best regards! PDE Link to comment

overdiep 0 Posted May 26, 2012 Just a blossom, but also one flower is wonderful. I like the composition and colours. The stamens are very clear and sharp, I like the light shadows they make. Best regards. Link to comment

tamaramar 0 Posted May 26, 2012 Pierre, this is another side of you - soft, tender, romantic. Very nice picture, has to be seen enlarged. Do you know, that great wine can be made out of its berries? The colour of it is amber and the aroma is increadible ! My father in law was a Master of Wild Rose Wine :) Warm regards, Tamara Link to comment
Elstad 9 Posted May 26, 2012 Hey Pierre! A most lovely floral image my friend... You sent me to google and yes indeed, this is a dog rose. I'd never heard of such a thing before. I'm sure the name comes from the similarity to the dogwood flower which comes in a variety of colors of white and pink and grows on dogwood trees. I used to live in Oregon where dogwoods grow wild out in the forest. They are named dogwood because when you burn the wood it smells pretty much like a wet dog :=}Cheers, Raymond Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 285 Posted May 26, 2012 Tamara, I didn't know that wine was made out of this plant and don't know is it a wild rose at all! Dog rose, as Raymond here says is confirmed! I just wrote šipurak (Croatian) in my dictionary and it gave me dog rose and rose hip jelly! We make a wonderful marmalade out of it and I think it's the best marmalade for pancakes! I would sure like to taste that wine anyway!Raymond, thanks for your comment and for the information! Best regards! PDE Link to comment
nadya r. 0 Posted May 26, 2012 Very good photo. The dried petals are very good for a herbal tea. Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted May 26, 2012 Hello PD, It certainly is a nice shot. The soft pastel color cotrasts well against the dark green BG. Composition and details are spot on, of course.BR,Holger Link to comment
aggiusti 72 Posted May 26, 2012 One of my favorite roses. Simple and generous, with its red berries that fill the cold winter. Congrats for composition and format. Best regards from Italy, Antonio Link to comment

JamieK 1 Posted May 27, 2012 why so sharp? seriously, though, it'll be good for your montages, but honestly, on it's own it looks soulless to me. botanical illustration pictures have more life. how did you you want it to look? best, j Link to comment
maria 7 Posted May 27, 2012 excellent focus and composition!Just returned from a "Florshow" - however, not many flowers to photograph, rather green plants Link to comment
gregverena 343 Posted May 27, 2012 Nice rendition of this old variety of rose. We'd never heard of it before - learned something! very similar in looks to our rosa rugosa. One theory on the name is that it was used to treat rabid dog bites in the middle ages...Does it have a fragrance?G+V Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 285 Posted May 28, 2012 G+V, it's a matter of fact a banal, all over everywhere spread plant, it's just my ignorance which makes a problem out of it! And I just tried to write it's English name! Sorry I can tell you about its fragrance because I can't feel the scent of the flowers lately! It certainly has some, but maybe not very strong, otherwise I would have remembered it! PDE Link to comment
