sonneland 0 Posted May 13, 2012 gordon, really nice to see a image with your name beneath it. simple composition, like the diagonal aspect here. also really lovely b/g. the only problem with this image for me would be the colors and that's entirely my own taste. nice work! Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted May 16, 2012 The composition and processing gives this a very impressionistic - almost abstract - feeling. The precise DOF is crucial here., The flower seems to leap buoyantly across the green of the picture plane following the diagonal line of the stem. The faint yellow flashes in the background provide just enough variety and depth. I think it's a beautifully nuanced picture. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted May 16, 2012 Roger,Thanks for the visit, likewise nice to see your name. Although I do continue with my floral explorations I seldom wander out of my little corner of PN and post them to the forums. I agree that colour choices are quite personal. I'm not sure of what you allude to regarding colour in your comment (would be lovely if you could elaborate ) however I'll guess that the overall greening up of the scene is what you reference. I did add some extra green on a separate layer to attempt to unify the background. Gunnar, Thanks for the comment, much appreciated Jack,I shot this one last week while playing in the woods behind my home. I recently acquired a macro ring flash and I'm still figuring out how to use it. One thing it does very well, if you get the balance of flash to ambient light down, is create nice separation between the foreground subject and the background. A whole new realm of possibilities has just opened up and it is spring and the flowers are blooming and life is good. Jamie,Beacon is the perfect description as these radiant little yellow jewels really do stand out against the backdrop of the forest edge. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 16, 2012 Beacon is a great description( a new word for me...;-)) it is really shining and the placement on the frame is vey well chosen, the BG is green but have traces of soft yellow that hinting of more of the Lilis, and balancing the whole! A beauty. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted May 27, 2012 Pnina,Thanks for sharing your interpretation. As I continue to work with the ring flash I find it does tend to make the subject jump out from the background. In this case I am happy with that effect, in other instances I am finding it a problem in need of further experimentation to tone down. Tatjana,Flirting is what it is all about if you are a flower, the bloom with the brightest lipstick and make-up gets the bee :-) Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 27, 2012 A floral fantasy! The a movement in the background feels almost breezy, especially the thin shadows of leaves and stems. The main leaf which is echoing the flower itself, with its rim-lit, glowing neon green edge, has a great angularity to it in the overall composition. The strong green filtration is a heavy grounding factor against the wispy movements of the background. It feels voluminous. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted May 28, 2012 " Voluminous " what a great description, thanks Fred. Link to comment
