"Firemen" Preparing to March in Winter Parade, Minnesota

This photo was taken in a small town in Ramsey Country, Minnesota in

the winter of 1982-1983. The participants are assembling to march in

a Winter Festival Parade. The fellow in the red knit cap below the

rotating red light is at the wheel of an antique fire engine, which

will carry some of the parade participants. A study of this image

will accurately convey, I believe, some appeciation of the dynamics

of socializing in a small town in the Midwest, among people who have

probably known each other for a long time.

I like how each person in the photo has a different facial expression. It kind of reminds me of "where's waldo" for some reason, I guess because there's just so much to look at that it takes a few minutes to really take it all in.
