Thanks Magaret!

Thanks Kenneth! It's a decent shot but it would be a lot nicer if the water does not have ripples (that created those black areas). Mostly, only morning shoot will have calm water but I got to work and only can shoot in the afternoon. I still am lucky to be able to get these birds with the eyes though. Sometimes, the sun is just on the wrong side and no such luck!

Nice capture Tm.  I have been trying to get photos like this one, but have failed so far.  Either they are out of focus (the camera locks onto some other bright spot of water or another bird nearby) or they move so fast that even 1/1600 sec. doesn't completely stop the motion.

Have you thought about trying flash with a flash extender to provide that gleam in the eye, especially when the sun isn't behind you?

Best,

Dennis

By the way TM, I actually kinda like the ripples. It compliments the black feathers. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! LOL!

Thanks Dennis! You must have read my mind since I been trying to order the 'EZ Beamer' from B&H.  I got tire of waiting for mother nature to coorporate, this whole weekend's morning is a burst since we got fog in and the sun does not come out till 10 or 11 AM. Thinking of getting some way to put 1 or 2 flashes on the end of the lens with the EZ Beamer (I heard it extend the flash 2 times more).  Btw, I found that you don't want to use multiple points focusing, I get blurry images when I do so, hence, I use only one single center focusing point.

Thanks Kenneth! LOL! I heard of the line 'differnt strokes for different folks' before. Actually, there was a show call 'different strokes' too. :-)

Actually, the black ripples on this one is somewhat complementary but on some other ones it's not, I think!

Yeah Tm, I watched Different Strokes growing up. But, you're right, some can't stand the ripples. For me, if they're black like this, I doesn't bother me at all. But if they're white on a windy day where you're on the wrong side of the sun, not so much.
