alberto.conde 0 Posted June 20, 2003 Again one of your fantastically well executed landscapes of the fjord. Incredible DOf and stormy sky. Masterful my friend! Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted June 20, 2003 Does the composition work? Im open for any crop suggestion and any rating, and any other input on this photo. Thanks!! Link to comment
gmahler5th 0 Posted June 20, 2003 I like the sunset. I think the expanse of rocky foreground distracts the eye from the sunset as a focal point. I think I would have tried to tilt the camera upward, or use a longer lens to get past the rocky foreground. Link to comment
vlad po... 1 Posted June 21, 2003 Beautuful sunset, very impressive clouds. However, I somehow agree with Steven. Just subjective opinion, I'd try to crop off part, maybe half of the rock on the bottom. Nevertheless, it works good as it is. Link to comment
WJT 566 Posted June 21, 2003 Atle, it's always a joy to see your photographs. I like the expanse of lichen-covered boulder; it's like a launching pad. However, I think the effect of the grad on the left is a bit too extreme. Link to comment
allan wallberg 0 Posted June 21, 2003 I like the balance between the foreground and the sky, and the colors at the front of the picture, makes it just a little bit extra, this croping is very good, if you should change anything:,the dark part to the left, needs some more details in the area,it would make the image a bit better. ( my opinion). Very nice image Atle!. It is very beautiful in Norway. Link to comment
richard blount 0 Posted June 21, 2003 Extremely beautiful, the composition is great, the light coming through the clouds is wonderful. Link to comment
christian_spahn 0 Posted June 21, 2003 ATLE, You are asking us about compsition, i think you dont need anybody, this is an amazing picture and i just can lay back and keep my eyes on this photo and on your hole work Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted June 21, 2003 Many thanks for the inputs..., and yes the left side is dark,.. if i crop on the left side i also need to do the same on the right side, to avoid that the light beam get centered to much..... i guess i have to agonize on this for a while before i make a final descision. karen_siebert 0 Posted June 22, 2003 Absolutely gorgeous. Stunning photo. Executed perfectly. Link to comment
paulo carrasco 0 Posted June 22, 2003 The way this picture is taken gives it a texture almost compared with a painting. well balanced and great tones. Link to comment
mclaine 0 Posted June 23, 2003 I think the shadows are fractionally too dominant, so I'd experiment with cropping the sides as you mention. I also think there is fractionally too much weight to the foreground in the composition, although I recognise that the foreground provides a nice neutral toned base, so if you crop some of it off, it might make the picture too dark over-all. I'm not convinced about the coral filter, but it's interesting to see how it looks. The light on the water and on the green forest is great. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 23, 2003 I have no words to express how I feel while looking at this photo!Great! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 23, 2003 I like how the eye is guided into the picture by the foreground (reminds of some seaside picture where a receding wave gives movement to the foreground and an intorduction to the rest of the frame). I also like how the tone of the foreground can be found on the right background on the top of the cliff (maybe on the left as well, although it is hard to distinguish there between the top of the cliff and the sky). It also looks like we have trouble entering the strait (or whatever it is) because the sun's reflexion make the eye go to the right cliff. The shadows on both sides are too deep for me as I can't see any detail. I don't like them. Link to comment
philmorris 0 Posted June 23, 2003 Its an attractive sky and light but I cant help wondering if the combination of 5 stops loss of light with the use of 2 ND grads and a further 1.33 stops with the coral have sucked a lot of features from the cliff tops surrounding this lake which would otherwise have been visible. It's a lot of detail distorting plastic to be putting in front of your lens too. Regarding composition I think its fine. I notice the weight of area afforded to the sky matches up with that for the foreground. I think cropping up from the base of the picture would damage the balance. Besides, the foreground is probably thee most detailed area in the picture. Its markings direct the viewer towards the centre of the picture. I wouldnt crop anything from the composition. Just allow it more light next May. Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted June 24, 2003 I made a print yesterday, where i took away a bit on the sides, and some at the top, to fit the A4 format, the darkness did not appear so prominent as on this one, so i feel it works quite well, with better transition into the dark area. Regarding the coral filter, i don't know if its normally used for warmup the sky, my intention was to use it on foreground textures in late sun, to produce a warmer tone, but have until now found myself using it mostly on the sky. Regarding the cropping im not shure yet, perhaps its a bit too much foreground, but at the same time it enhancing the DOF effect. Phil.. the Lee soft filters are huge and do not deliver what they "promise", 5 fstops would in reality be 3-3,5. And the coral has the same soft transition. Thanks for the feedbacks. Regards!
