starvy 7 Posted May 2, 2012 We had an unusually lovely Indian summer here in Wales. I set out for a walk with my Estonian friend Oskar on a late Saturday afternoon. This was taken on our way back to Penarth Marina. The colours were astounding along the cliff top that time of year but the light was also rather challenging. I was shooting with my 1937 Zeiss Ikonta with an uncoated Tessar 3.5 lens. I didn't have a lenshood with me on this journey and thus combined with Velvia 100, there is such a dramatic array of colours. Sadly, the jpeg rendition looses the subtlety of the colours that I found on my original Tiff scan. Link to comment
mikemorrell 3,209 Posted May 2, 2012 I was brought up in this part of the country (Swansea) so the scenery looks familiar. Come to that I suppose any sweeping bay would look familiar! It took me a while to get used to the saturated colours in this photo but I suppose they're authentic. I've never quite made the step from digital to film. Must be fun using old cameras.Cheers,Mike Link to comment
starvy 7 Posted May 3, 2012 Hi Mike,I shoot only film for fun. What little 'proper' shooting I do is in digital and tends to inevitably be the odd portrait commission for friends and acquaintances.Velvia 50 and 100 are nice combinations with with old uncoated lenses, especially with a hood. Unfortunately, the blustery conditions and challenging contrast meant I had shoot at around 1/50th shutter speed. The purple/blue part of the cliff are more natural in the original tiff file although I did have to dodge them slightly from the original much darker tone. Link to comment
