I find it a bit too long and with not enough air at the sides: for studio portraiture I think of the final product – it is too long (awkward) for a table top / desk top frame and the room would have to be large and with very high ceilings to carry a wall frame.

Maybe it is not for  a client as such but for studio portraiture practice and maybe it will never be framed print – I don’t know, but the aspect ratio and the way the canvas is used within it, is worth considering.

Notwithstanding those points – the ¾ Portraits is the hardest to make and to make well IMO. (i.e. - a minor point - this is not an "Head Shot" but rather it is a Three Quarter Sitting Portrait)

Also if the hands are to be included in the frame then (secondary to the eyes) the hands are usually the next physical aspect displaying internal communication, between the Subjects – so should be in focus, which they appear not to be.

If you are going in tight on the sides in the original framing then perhaps consider tighter on the long base would render a better finished Portrait and one more suitable for a variety of household displays:

There’s also a bit of work on the eyes and a teeth clean and also a greater number of tones have bee brought out, in the shadow areas.

The three way communication (Girl to Dad; Dad to Viewer) is really well managed - you have captured "the moment".

I particularly like the casual style of the Portrait emphasised by the three day growth of Dad and the Girl’s hair being in concert . . . and then those contrasted to the juxtaposition between her colourful top and his black hoodie: these elements add to the feeling of warmth within the Portrait.

TQ WW for the comprehensive analysis. I agree with you it is too long. There is a reason......I want to show it full length so that I can crop whatever way the client wants - be it short or full length. This is for him to decide.

A very relaxed portrait of father and daughter Alec. This one will surely be a 'keeper' for many years, but I can imagine Ruby saying in years to come to her own children, 'see this is Granpa when he was so young, and I was your age - isn't he handsome??' Very nice work Alec.

Warmest regards, Gail
