Please comment on ways to improve this shot. I love these high

contrast shots, but lighting/exposure is tough to get perfect. On only

use Canon Digital Pro, not P.S., so please offer up any comments for

improvements on this one. Pro's and cons... Thanks friends!

Interesting light and presentation. I might try cropping tighter on the left. That the feet get lost in the bg detracts slightly for me. With PS Elements, I would go entirely black in the bg usiing the clone tool to complete the effect.

I appreciate that you don't use PS (which is all I use.... Sony's software was too limiting) but hopefully my explanation will give food for thought in terms of your use of  your current software.

Obviously my rendition relates to my thoughts, had this been my image..... another perspective, if you will.

I cropped from the the right a little, to give more movement to the image.

In lightening the dark areas the Goose's feet came into play but then I needed to clone out the duck in the background. It also lightend numerous water reflections that I took out.

In darkening the light areas more definition in the tail, chest and neck came to prominance  and with a touch of sharpening the subject (for me) came more alive.........

In the final analysis of my rendition, the feet, head and goose "outline" is more defined and I believe to go for a darker background, these areas would get "lost".

One could of course have done most of this in reverse...... darken the dark areas and worked on the light areas in the Goose to bring out the feet and definition in the tail, chest and neck........ it's all subjective and depends on what you wanted the image to be.

You have a good capture here and I think that you have to decide what presentation you wish to end up with.

Hope some of this helps............

Best regards
