Great shot! How did you do it? I let some nest on my window sill, but they made such a mess on the glass that I couldn't get any pictures.

wow, what gorgeous colors and exquisite detail!! I never knew what the inside roofs of their mouths looked like! I too am curious how you got this. How long was the lens?

John, Brian... my husband spoted the nest in a small shrub. He held back the branches while I got in as closely as I could without upsetting the nest. I took a few shots (Dimage 5 has a 7x zoom) and left them alone as I didn't want to keep the parents from them for too long.

I guess for me it was just being in the right place at the right time and ... oh yes ... having my camera with me and ready to go.

Thanks for all the comments and ratings to date.

this is a super image regina ... really like your work ... being in the right place at the right time is useful as you say ... but the greater part is knowing how to optimise on it .. and you certainly do that

We had a marvelous Robin's nest on a windowsill one summer. The two eggs hatched and we watched them avidly. One day they were gone. The nest was empty. A hard fact of life intruded and we missed them.

This is a wonderful capture, Regina. Nice work.

Lucky indeed to have been able to capture this wonderful image, but also a fine example of how luck favors those who are prepared. And then there is the excellent framing (not the frame, the framing), which has nothing to do with luck but is just admirable skill.
