Thank you Nelson, Ian and Pierre for your thoughts. This image was purposely designed to be disturbing and somewhat uncomfortable to view. Photography is about pushing the boundaries, presenting something different, original and/or unique. For me, this image encompasses those things. It seems the low rating this image has received is evident of the discomfort most viewers feel (although some comments to that effect would have been nice, but anyway). I can only assume that that is the case since those very same individuals who have rated this image low haven't commented on any poor technical aspects of the image.

Once again, thanks for your visit

You indeed pushed boundaries here. I guess some people will rate it very high, others very low. It is a pity that the PN now only shows the average.

Anyway, I like it a lot, although it is discomforting, and will be with the high raters. Images which puts boundaries go always in my favorites !

Thanks again for sharing,

Ben

It must be partially personal preference in images Art. At first glance I right away put it into a 'category' (for loss of a better word at this moment) of 'Creative Art re Horror/Sci Fi' images. The popularity of 'Vampire/Werewolf etc.' movies is very evident just by Box Office Revenue.

Even if you consider 'Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest', I marvelled at the movie itself, and then watched on the 'Special Features' of the DVD as to how they made the movie;  the Art Direction/Dept. had a massive undertaking. 'Authinticity/Believable work' was critical  to the movie.

John Dexter was the Supervising Art Director. He along with his very talented assistants had an unbelievable volume of details that had to be taken care of. I marvelled as I saw them develop so many drawings pertinent to the movie. I can't even begin to explain the talented work involved. The face of Davey Jones and the other Pirates of the ghostly Flying Dutchman were works of Art in of themselves.

If I had known upon leaving High School, just what direction I wanted my life to take, and to actually KNOW that one could have a Career in this type of Artistic Expression - well I wouldn't be writing this right now. I think this image is a 'testament' to your very high level of Creativity, your artistic skills that are nutured by your Imaginaiton and not limited by conventional boundaries.

While I find it very difficult to watch those 'gory' horror movies and personally don't give them the 'time of day', I do recognize the Artistic Skills that for me, 'truly MAKE' an Excellent movie. But then we are back to 'personal taste of the viewer' again.

While this image made me a 'bit uncomfortable' when first viewed, I soon realized your 'intent'. I think it is Brilliant. My eyes are immediately drawn to those 'outstanding grey eyes' then the other details of the face. The FEAR expressed in the EYES, then the STITCHES on the MOUTH and other areas of the face and ultimatley how the FACE is an overwhelmingly perfect expression of the TITLE is what leads me to applaud your BRILLIANCE.

I can so totally see this image as a 'book JACKET' - or in a 'Movie Trailer'. I have 'gone on' long enough. I may be totally wrong Art. Even so, I do applaude your ingenuity.

Still a 'fan', all the BEST, Gail

Thank you Ben and Gail.

I'm glad to see you've both recognised my intent here and see the image for what its designed (as have the others who have taken the time to comment).

I understand the lack of response and low rating of this image may represent a personal taste that simply doesn't appeal to all. I am however grateful that some can also see outside the box, view a 'wholistic' representation and understand the image doesn't stand alone but is married with caption and technical execution and so should be rated and commented on with those 'other' factors in mind. After all this is a photography forum where technical execution and composition are not mutually exclusive from one another.

Gail, like you, I too wish that in my younger years I was steered towards a more artistic direction when determining my career path, but alas its never too late to learn, take the bull by the horns, as it were, and let our creative juices flow.

As you know, I like to push boundaries with my creative nous and hope my inspiration continues from the world I live in

Brilliant work done here Art. I love it even if some may be critical about it or even turn away from it. Who knows, in years from now what our great grandchildren might look like with the warming of our planet and even no water around. If you have ever exhibited your works then this type of your works should be done more.....

Warmest Regards and keep them safe.

Grant, Johanna, thank you very much for your thoughts.

As I've said previously, I welcome the feeling of unease this image may represent for some. Its indicative of the intent I set out to achieve:)

You have certainly pushed the boundaries on a marvelous image. The perfectly bright, intense and healthy eyes are in stark contrast to the rest of the individual and the surroundings and this gives a powerful and overall  visual contrast to the image. Congrats on a very fine image.
