Some bored, some engaged, another removed a bit -- a world I've been able to observe but never enter.  Modern orthodox young women, schooled in some sexist things I've never had to accept -- sexist in my view -- (for I don't agree with some of the teachings) -- yet living in the comfort of a type of societal safety net of sorts -- not just how they flock together -- looking like they are all just minutes away from their weddings (accept for the one whose head is already covered) soon to be raising passel of kids, cooking and, perhaps disappointment, perhaps comfort -- some in limited roles, others paired with more liberal males.  Your capture of a variety of expressions -- all but the two on the right -- vying for central attention in this photo.  Lovely.  Only nit ... maybe just on this screen ... brightest, whitest area is the wall on the right

BTW, thank you for the pic of the Japanese thank you -- (had company that demanded all my time ) -- it was really touching in a beautiful way... That should be in the newspapers here - such horrible news i the papers last week :(

this is very moving, Meir; and wonderful of Donna Stavis for cracking the veil to reveal the significance of the image. ;-}

Similar to groups of girls everywhere.  I love seeing how my daughter's generation interact and enjoy each other's company.  The one in the middle, lost in her own thoughts, is so charming.  Well seen.

Commonly known on this side of the ocean as a 'Hen Party'.  :-)  I think that this crop is about as good as it's going to get.  Looks like a lively and friendly gathering but I think the seated one in the center has busted you and thus the more serious expression.  Thanks also to Donna for widening my cultural horizons.  Head coverings indicate marriage?  Well, that little nugget of wisdom could save a few awkward moments for some unfamiliar with the custom.  Best, LM.
