pnital 36 Posted March 21, 2012 While photographing a concert, I saw a collection og miniature statuettes donated to the concert hall lobbia .it looks like a chinese art,but reading the explanation I have found out it is an early 19th century Japanese art . It has two names: Netsuke and Okimono. They are very small and are created with different materias, some of them are decorating the Kimono belts ,I liked the art and photographed some of them.I hope you the viewer will like the beautiful art. Thanks and a links... http://www.jcollector.com/Okimono-s/108.htmhttp://silver-lotus.hubpages.com/hub/Netsuke Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted March 21, 2012 Charming! There is pleasing subtlety in your processing of it. In other hands it would have been sharpened and lost its delicate beauty. Link to comment
elportebonheur 0 Posted March 23, 2012 I read your intro. However, the image has your signature - for me it's one of your fantastic 'stage shots'...in the broadest sense of course. Compliments Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 25, 2012 This is a beauty, Pnina. I got interested in Netsuke long before I came to Japan and actually bought one years ago which I had for quite a while but eventually gave to my girlfriend. The detail on these carvings, the intricate sense of design, is amazing. Usually they were carved out of ivory or whale bone. It's nearly impossible to find this level of precision artistry today. It's an art form that seems to have completely vanished here in Japan. Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted March 26, 2012 Pnina, in both of these you've managed to show us the beautiful, intricate details of the carving. This one particularly, when viewed large the pattern and weave of the garments is perfect. The cool tones of the background and it's softness really makes a nice setting for this. And as El pointed out, it does have a quality that feels like one of your theatre pieces. Link to comment
