This is pretty much straight out of the camera. I cropped, and did a

bit of sharpening before reducing to a small jpg. These colours were

not saturated, they really looked like this.

Thanks for looking.

I can believe the colours were so brilliant Linda. It appears it was an extremely bright day in  'Paradise'. I find the many spores on the leaves of the tropical plants in the foreground to be very interesting. I ws not aware that they propagated this way, somewhat similar to ferns.

Were you in a designated 'Garden' or was this the beautiful plants that one would find abundant all over th island?

Nice capture.

Warm regards, gail

Wow! Nothing more delightful than stunning natural vivid colour! The light has played an instrumental part in conveying the colours and you have captured it perfectly!

Best Regards

This is a cultivated garden. When foreigners/Captain Cook arrived Kauii they brought flora and fauna from their home lands. Many of the imported plants thrived in the tropical environment pushing out the native plants. I understand that there are many endangered species now. The government agricultural inspectors are very aggressive in keeping any more invading species out. The island is being developed for tourism, and the gardens are amazing. The island is over run with wild chickens, they were imported many years ago and now they are everywhere. They have no natural preditors. You can see some natural, original plants.  I think eventually it will all be developed with the exception of the Government Parks. I bet Steve Shinn could tell you more about the natural plants and birds if you are interested. We were both there in February. They arrived just after we left. We have  identical shots of some of the tourist spots.

Don and I spent the first few days in Kauai just gaping. I have never seen colour like this. It is, of course, most spectacular when the sun is out. There is a sweet, fragrance in the air that is so lovely.

Ah, lovely shots Linda.  Superb light and color management.  Was this when you were shooting on Manual?

Makes me itch to hop back on a plane.

Thank you both for stopping and commenting.

Steve, this was taken before my auto focus went. I am going to see if I can get a prescription eye piece for my camera. It would make manual focus much easier if this ever happens again. It seems these little things always happen at the absolute worst possible time. The problem is solved now. I got in touch with Canon support and the told me to delete all settings and that did the trick. I would love to go back too, with a back up camera. We are debating going back there next year or trying someplace new.

Tony, thanks. The colours were amazing. It was so dull and dreary in Vancouver when we got home.

Best wishes!

Linda
