alecee 0 Posted March 14, 2012 The Old Quarter, near Hoan Kiem lake, has the original street layoutand architecture of old Hanoi. At the beginning of the 20th centurythe city consisted of only about 36 streets, most of which are nowpart of the old quarter. Each street then had merchants and householdsspecialized in a particular trade, such as silk traders, jewellery, etc. The street names nowadays still reflect these specializations, although few of them remain exclusively in their original commerce. The area is famous for its small artisans and merchants, includingmany silk shops. Local cuisine specialties as well as several clubsand bars can be found here also. A night market (near Đồng Xuânmarket) in the heart of the district opens for business every Friday,Saturday, and Sunday evening with a variety of clothing, souvenirs andfood. Link to comment

wingell 0 Posted March 16, 2012 This is a wonderful "city life" image captured at a perfect moment. The angles and colors work beautifully, as does your accompanying description of the city's history and current status. Well done! Regards...Bill Link to comment

alecee 0 Posted April 24, 2012 TQ Gail.My wife is an uptown girl so she does not like it. Prefers the shopping in modern cities like HK. But this is one of my favorite places for street photography. So much to see. Link to comment
