John,

Kristine is a pretty girl with beautiful hair. You have focused well on her eyes. Her make-up looks good.

Her skin tone is quite good -- perhaps a smidgen over exposed on her face. You have lost some detail in the dark areas -- especially her top.

The composition is a little strange. I am not sure why you have scrunched her face in the upper right corner. You have so little room in front of her that she is facing out of the photograph.

I can't really decide what her expression is saying to me. I don't know it she looks sad or just sleepy.

The light areas of her face and arm next to the edges of your frame draw my attention out of the photograph.

Her arm looks like it could be foreshortened. If nearer the camera than her body her feet, knees, hands, elbows and shoulders will look out of proportion to the rest of the body -- larger than normal -- foreshortened. Compared to her face, her arm just looks too large.

She could be better separated from the background.

Nice shot,

Mark

I'm going to give your entire critique some substantial thought.

I was going to do the rare act of pulling this when I saw how it looked on posting and maybe consider the color version (her hair is reddish and provides continuity that seems missing here, and tones are different, plus her skin is 'flesh' not white, eliminating some 'graphic' qualities but adding some others.

So, I'll think about what you've written; if I hadn't suddenly found five rates and a bunch of views, this would have been pulled (I pull about one or two each year, maximum, maybe less.).

Thanks for the strong, unanticipated effort.

I finally puzzled out the remark about the foreshortened arm; the arm supposedly looking bigger than it should.

That's because it's her torso, not her arm.

The color version, which I debated posting and didn't, a regret of mine, clearly showed it was a torso by skin tones and other indicators; there would have been no confusing it with a foreshortened arm.

Also, the reddishness of the hair in the color version ties together the reddish portions of her facial coloring with slightly rosy flesh tones in her torso, for added help in tying all the elements of this photo together.

As I said, I almost pulled it after posting but it had too many rates and views by then, and I felt it would be disingenuous to pull a photo, then put up the color version (probably waiting some suitable intervening time for things to settle down and memories to fade).

I think puzzle solved.  Her arm is over her head, left to top.

Thanks for helping me sort this one out.  It's a real deficit if you can't tell from my photo the difference between an arm and a partly concealed torso, so you have pointed out a major lacuna.
