I really like the perspective.  The only sense that this was taken after dark is in the curious lighting, with illuminated areas and shadow areas appearing where they might not be expected based on the perceived light in the frame.  If I didn't look very closely, I'd say this was a daylight photograph.

The cracked foreground makes an interesting subject, complemented with the mountains, however I think the right of the image contributes little to it having no cracks and no mountains, so I would have shot it pointing more to the left, at least until the right border touches the beginning of the mountains. Also, the horizon isn't levelled, it's sinking to the right; you should have shot it horizontally. Otherwise it's a good image.

I'll bet this is a natural slope formed by erosion coming off the hills (an alluvial fan), and therefore the photo is probably straight.  When one see these vast alluvial fans in a landscape that receives very little rain, one becomes impressed with the number of years (or centuries) that must have been required to produce such a large area of erosion.

Actually you are correct Stephen, the camera is level and the ground is sloping down and to the right. Also, the 17mm lens adds curve to the image. I would shot it the same way again.
