mark_kay 0 Posted June 2, 2003 An African Shoebill who picked up a duck. This is the second in a series of two photos like this. He released the duck unharmed Link to comment

john_t_wilkey 0 Posted June 3, 2003 Sometimes your just at the right place at the right time, and ready with the equipment to get a shot like that. WOW!! Link to comment
edgars_purins 0 Posted June 3, 2003 WOW ! You must be a lucky man to capture such a great action ! Duck seems to poze to camera and in a second will say: "OK, done, now release" Link to comment
briany 0 Posted June 3, 2003 Thanks for showing another in this amazing series. Of course it's a Great photo. The first one worked better for me. I think here the duck looks more stoic, where in the other his open mouth and feet position shows more distress. I also think that the feather texture in the other shot is more interesting and looks more like prehistoric scales. And there was probably just more impact seeing that one for the first time. Still, it's an amazing sequence. Link to comment
laura2 0 Posted June 4, 2003 I don't like this as much as the first shot, which made me scream in laughter and show everyone and make them scream in laughter too. (We're easily amused people) :) I think what made the first shot extremely effective was the fact the duck looked so surprised. In this shot, it looks like it's not even annoyed that the shoebill picked it up. It's amusing, but not as candid and hysterical as the initial image. (I wish I was there!) Link to comment
srlasky 0 Posted June 12, 2003 This is a great pic. Composition, lighting, non-chalance of the banded brid in the grey bills mouth. Link to comment
tc_reed 0 Posted June 14, 2003 This can't be good! Did the duck escape the terrible jaws of the giant bird of prey? Link to comment
andrew_grant 0 Posted June 16, 2003 Great timing. Exposure is excellent and I like the way you have cropped the wings. Link to comment
veljo_runnel 0 Posted June 17, 2003 How long did You trained the big one to grab smaller bird? Link to comment
mark_kay 0 Posted June 17, 2003 THanks for all the comments. The duck was let go. This is not a fake. It is an African shoebill who pickedup a duck who walked in its path at the San Diego wildanimal park. If you go to the park there are several of these birds there. mark Link to comment
daniel guerin 0 Posted June 21, 2003 Often, a shot which looks faked is a bad shot. This one doesn't look real but that's what makes it such a great shot! Not sure if my comment would have been different if you'd not stated it was released unharmed though! Link to comment
