artofheadshots 0 Posted June 2, 2003 I had released a picture earlier called "A Moment in Process". Wrote a little blab about rating pictures, and was given some brutally honest feedback. Swallowed my pride and attempted to improve it by selecting the next shot fired in that same photoshoot. Did I achieve my goal? All comments are appreciated. Cheers, Link to comment
fabiomayo 0 Posted June 2, 2003 The previous photo has created the one real discussion I witnessed at photo.net, although I found it extremely aggressive from many photographers. Back to your picture. I have to agree that you are too connected to it - but then again, who isn´t? - and the previous one did not achieve (at least, for myself I must say) the objective you claimed it should. That one, I´m not sure it does achieve it but it is a much more interesting, intriguing picture, specially with the staring, serious look and a good framing. I must congratulate you for both of them and specially for being sufficiently open-minded to try and improve yourself - after all, isn´t it the point of this community? Link to comment
k._s._lovington 0 Posted June 2, 2003 With exception of that matching fuzzy border thing, everything here is better, imo. As to whether or not it more effectively conveys what she was experiencing, I obviously don't know. I do know that I like the tighter crop, as the background in the previous post was too boring to be helpful and too busy to be ignored. I also like the tone(both color and contrast), and the eyes look great. A much more engaging job by both you and her. cheers ps. Thanks for taking honest critique like an adult. No hard feelings. joe_garrick 0 Posted June 2, 2003 I definitely like the tighter crop on this one - it eliminates the problem of the distracting background. The eye contact both adds and takes away in comparison to the previous shot. The other shot made me wonder what she was thinking about, but in a way that almost made me feel voyeuristic or intrusive. This shot gives up that mood but replaces it with one that's equally engaging. They both work. I honestly can't say which one I prefer. Link to comment
jimvanson 0 Posted June 2, 2003 Ah...my son; I knew it had the juice. This is much closer to the way I had cropped the original. I like the look but the emotion of the original still wails to me. First Id like to comment on the intensity of the comments of the previous shot. I thought any shot that could get the boat rocking the way it was Had to Be Good! No, we werent looking at a shot of white kitties at Wal-Mart; we were discussing emotion and what place it had in a photograph. And without beating a dead horse Ill reiterate that just as Ringo did youll find you have to strike when the shot appears if its emotion you want to capture. And this shot? Superb tone/ color. The background has been either dodged or cropped out making for a much less distracting shot and the heavy frame is no more. And how would I rate this one? The original was 6/4. This one is 6 for emotion and 5.5 for the technical side. Things are good buddy and whats waiting in your folder is Tough. Link to comment

karen_siebert 0 Posted June 4, 2003 Hi, I did not see the other photo but I think this is wonderful. I really like the tight crop and different angle. Beautiful model, nice lighting, nice pose. Just simply excellent Link to comment

g. 0 Posted June 5, 2003 this one is great.... although personally I preferred the other one. For me the background wasn't too distracting and for ME, this is a little too tightly cropped. Link to comment
