High above the hubbub of the main train station in Kyiv, Ukraine where

tens or hundreds of thousands pass ever day there is a gorgeous,

old-time waiting room of tremendous size and exquisite craftsmanship

set aside for a few, select travelers, featuring ultrahigh ceilings,

elaborate ironwork in front of stories-high windows (with wonderful

light worthy almost of a cathedral), and these rows and rows of

hand-crafted, high-backed lattice chairs, no doubt created under the

Communists and set aside for rest by High Communist Party officials

and families during their travels and and almost certainly barred to

the masses -- now apparently set aside for VIPS and a very few special

ticket holders as the huge room was virtually empty with two

attendants. Your ratings, critiques and observations are invited and

most welcome. If you rate harshly, very critically or wish to make a

remark, please submit a helpful and constructive comment; please share

your photographic knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks!

Enjoy! john (the proletarian)

The chairs and background here, are just one detail of this huge room.

The entire room features side lighting, as it is illuminated during daytime from giant windows along one side, and the range of light values is tremendous, even on a dull day.

Thanks for sharing with me your thought and examples on range of Exposure Values, especially your examples.

Although this may tend to block up in the blacks just a little, it's intentional, as this is a photo about 'highlights' and 'contrasts'.

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge about filling a histogram; it's been most valuable and has influenced my work more than you may know.

Thank you for the complimentary assessment.

Few expect to see from me, John Crosley, who does a lot of street work, a photo which plays primarily on light and shadow, which might easily have been placed in the 'fine art' category and been taken by a large format camera.

In fact, I easily could return to this particular huge room with a large format camera and do some wonders, I think.

Thanks for stopping by; please know that I also do landscapes, aerial, nudes, news, and many other things besides the 'street' I am known by many for.
