IMHO, Perfectly captured. I love the variety of forms, textures and colors in the rock with a small portion of vivid blue. Just wondering if this was taken during the magic hours as the shadows seem to be quite long!

Tony, thanks for visiting.  I looked at the exif data (attached to the posting), and I think it says this was taken around noon.  I was shocked!  I never shoot at noon.  But then, maybe during the winter months when the sun is relatively low and I'm far from home with only a limited time in a place.....perhaps I might.

Even if it is at noon details of this shapes are incredible, different layers with different colors and format you chosen makes this more interesting,is also possible in low light to be not so good as this one.

As Tony mentioned, I love the layers and their variety of colors and textures...all topped by the blue sky. Really cool!

Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful.  Did you shoot Artist's Pallet on the other side of the hill.

The large view is wonderful.

Thanks very much for the comments!

Steve, I did spend a bit of time at Artist's Palette, but I may have been there at the wrong time of day because I just couldn't find a good photo.

Great design contributing to a fine composition. I can hardly believe this was shot at noon. The shadows show good contrast. I like the horizontal composition in thirds.

Hola Stephen.

Excelente panorámica de este desierto montañoso. Te felicito.

Un cordial saludo, Joaquín.

It's great how depth is conveyed by different hues of rocks - low winter sun (despite noon :-)) emphasizes shapes and textures. Blue sky at the top is a welcome contrast to yellowish hues near the bottom.

Beautiful shot. The layered layout of the rocks, variety in their shape, texture & colour are visually attractive.

I would have liked the inclusion of a human figure or so to provide a sense of scale.

Best regards.

Sagnik, I agree that a human figure would have greatly helped to establish a sense of scale.  Unfortunately, I was the only soul here.  At the bottom of the frame is a single-track road (something I tried to eliminate but could only minimize); I think it can help to give a sense of scale.

Wonderful! A perfect exposure, excellent clairity - so crisp and clean, and a wonderful composition. It must be seen larger.  A very powerful image.

enough has already been said perhaps, but can I just add "DDDUUUDDEE...AWESOME"... :D

In conclusion I like it.

I like this shoot it´s a piece of art with the composition and the strong colours. But I guess you have done some photoshop on the sky? i think it would be hard to get an exposure thats soo good on the montain and get that high saturetion in the sky at the same time?

Best regards Tore

Or he used a graduated nd filter ...that would be another way to saturate the sky anyway :)

Torre, I can't remember if I've done anything to the sky.  Sometimes conditions are good for a deep blue sky, and other times a GND filter or editing might be necessary.  I used to use GND filters, but I seldom use those today -- more precise control can be achieved in processing, IMO (especially with stitched photos).

As everyone pointed out the composition of this photo (the way you show the three different horizontal layers of rock) is excellent. I was thinking maybe a black and white look but you would probably want to shoot this high contrast red filter but the sky would probably turn black.

For me what really makes this one is the crop that you used. You always use very interesting formats when you crops. What ratio is this? Is this 3:1?

Nice work Stephen, no need to worry about the time of day here.

Joseph, this is 3:1.  I like to stick to standard ratios simply to make framing easier.  A ratio of 2:1 is one of my favorites; it seems to work well for a lot of semi-panoramas (or mini-panoramas?) that I often find.  Thanks for stopping by -- I appreciate your comments.

Great texture with all the shapes and forms.   I find that when I stitch photos together as you have done with this 7 shot panorama, more detail is brought out.  Pretty remarkable for a noon photo!

Nice panorama and color contrast. Bit softer light would be great. Also bit unsharp, wonder its the stretching these sites play with our images.
