Veterans Portrait Project was an art show for the Canadian Army

photographed by me and my great friend and Veteran Saun O'mara.

The shadows are pretty deep, and perhaps that's a good way to portray military personnel.  I presume the item on his right arm is quite important, because it really stands out in the photograph.  I know that some uniforms, caps, and emblems can be quite colorful, yet B&W will probably more clearly convey the face -- was this a consideration in choosing B&W?  It's an interesting project.

I really appreciate your comments and questions.  In particular, your comment about the badge to his left & being prominent, now looking at it - I might have toned it down.  Great suggestion

Going B&W, was more of a printing decision than anything else, we used IPF 710 printer that prints incredible B&W, matched with the MOAB lasal gloss.  The prints at 24X36 stood out.

The high contrast was a decision to bring the soldiers mood, although Tyrone Green is one of Canada's most experienced and decorated soldiers.
