Originally this was Bernardin Catholic Church and monastery. It was build

in upper town, center of the city in 1641. It faces Nemiga Street which used

to be a riva Nemiga (it is still there, but runs underground, imprisoned in

pipes). The name of Minsk upon Nemiga was mentioned in year 967 in old

manuscripts describing fights between grand dukes (compare:Moscow was

founded in 1147)

Great shot with a very interesting history GJD. I like the composition of this image as well.  Thats quite an impressive building.

I'm afraid the light wasn't helping you here. The flatness of the tones suggests dull, overcast conditions, which provide no contrast. I know when travelling you can't often wait for ideal light, but I think there may have been some possibilities here to produce an image that was more dramatic by focusing on some architectural details. The composition is OK, with a kind of "here it is" feeling. A more dramatic angle might have provided a more dynamic image.

I's rather that streetlight weren't there, but at least it provides dome depth.

Excellent information from Tamara, GungaJim. We have communicated through email, she lives not far from me. Hope to meet her some day. Your story as well as this excellent image are very interesting. You have visited so many wonderful spots in your travels. You must have an 'enormous' collection of 'memories'.

A fine addition to your Portfolio!

Warmest regards, Gail
