Gillie,

Very nice composition and great timing on the take off.  Excellent lighting on the bird.  The eye is very clear.  You must have been very close.  Great work!

Hello Gillie,

I salute your patience and photographic dedication both in tracking this Heron and in waiting for the 'definitive moment' before taking your shot.  Years ago, when I lived in Vancouver, Canada, I spent about two hours creeping through pebbles and ocean water tracking a Heron.  It was standing perfectly still in the crashing surf and I wanted to get a picture of it in a long-exposure shot (figuring its stillness would make it stand out).  Every time I got within range, it would notice me and go a little further down the beach.  It took a long time but I eventually got my shot: the silhouette of a Heron standing in the surf.  Your capture here is far beyond that.  An excellent picture of an elusive bird.

Bravo!

Thank you all;  I did follow him around for a while, and I wanted him to fly, but not away from me!  Eventually I got the shots I needed.

Hi, I agree, nice timing on this shot. Well composed also as the bird takes-off into the frame, so its pleasing to the eye. Good clarity.

A great action shot.......... well done.

Yes, to capture these birds is a time-consuming exercise, but well worth it when the shot comes together........ like this one.

Congrats
