wogears 186 Posted March 27, 2012 Interesting composition and colors; bears up to a good long look. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 30, 2012 The blue holds up fine, especially because it's supported by a very intriguing expression by your main subject and a well-suited and well-handled background. The atmospherics, the haze, the brilliant sky, the traffic all work well to support this portrait and create a narrative but nothing overpowers her. Some will likely say the blue itself is overpowering but I think the risk and boldness of your choice just adds a decisive touch while also creating a somewhat artificial contrast between the woman and her world. I find such artificiality, when conscientiously handled, very effective and very much OK. It's artificial but not superficial and it shows the kind of creative license that still maintains enough sense of the organic while also providing a meaningful kind of expression. As Les said above, there's enough here to keep one's attention and move one's eye around the frame, while we always come back to your woman, who can't help but penetrate the viewer with her presence. jochenvaneden 0 Posted March 30, 2012 Ohh, thank you so much for your comments!I was not sure. It smacks of too much. I do not want to lose myself in blue and try to restrain myself. It is really important to hear other opinions. Thank you! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 30, 2012 The important thing, because this is so personal and such a matter of how you want to express this portrait, is what you feel and what your gut may tell you, especially over time. If YOU think it is too much, then it likely is. If you live with it for a while and continue to feel that way, see if you can lessen the blue while still retaining what it is that made you try it in the first place. I'm sure it can be done!
