Alf,

Wow...you have picked the perfect title for this image.  Wonderful capture with so much power to the scene, it really touches your heart as you mind wonders & heart feel what this gentlemen is feeling. Thank you for sharing such a moving scene with your creative skills.  Take care, Patsy

Alf, I was trying to figure out why this attracts me and keeps me looking.  I believe it is the atmosphere that was there and that you have created. You allow the man and particularly the red leaves at upper right prominence.  It is also your composition.  You have that unique skill at finding the best composition with what the scene gives you.

Your accomplice adds a very meditative ambiance to the shot and it was a good idea to include him.  I contend though, this would have been an excellent landscape even without the subject.  I particularly like the soft light and the fine detail in the tree branches...  Mike

What a wonderfully composed image. The framing between the trees combined with mist and feeling of depth you get from this image (trees and slight rolling hills) make it a wonder to look at.

This is an image that benefits from being taken during winter as trees filled with leaves would ruin that 3D effect this time of year and composition provides for.

This is another one that might benefit from a black and white treatment. I am not going to post an alternate version as this photograph is too good for my clumsy fingers to fumble at.

As always, nice scene Alf.

I am always so glad to be surprised by you. What a nice landscape! And how the presence of the man changes it completely! Drama? Yes. Story? Yes. There's a lot of space for imagination. One can look at it endless - it is captivating. You have made my evening, thank you. All the best, Tamara.

p.s. thank you for your nice words.I have never had my pictures really printed - have no idea where to start from :)

A beautifully observed shot Alf. I like the way the two trees frame the image with the man looking through at the scene beyond. The tree shapes filtering into the mist help create a superb winter scene. A very brave man sitting in such cold circumstances ! Great shot Alf.

Wonderful image Alf, the colors and tones are just beautiful and your composition is impeccable. It gets even better viewed larger.  I love the atmosphere and the mood created by the single figure sitting and observing the forest.  I noticed some cut out tree just in front of him (more visible in the larger image), and it made me wonder if he is mourning in silence their premature ending.  Nice work as usual. Regards always - michel

Very beautiful image. I like the tranquil mood and the filmy winter branches. Funny, the red colour of the leaves right are coming back in the ears of the man.

Hi Alf, The atmosphere is very strong in this image, it's permeating. The title is perfect. The textures and colors soft and subdued as they are, work well with the overall emotion and impact of this beautiful image. I like the trees branches above and around him for framing the subject in a subtle way. Real good work Alf. Take care.

Holger

Hi Alf,  No time to read all of your comments now.  The shapes of the trees in this image are amazing, and the red leaves or blossoms on the tree at the right really make a statement against the moody fog.  Is this a satire on the ears of the guy on the bench?  His ears match the red leaves on the tree.  You must intend that?  Most interesting and humorous.  Best to you.  I will not be on PN during March as we are going to New Zealand.  I hope to have a few decent images to post when we get back.  Best to you.   Larry

Fine composition, and a finest mood ,both of the solitude and the atmosphere, may be the big stem at the extreme left if not included or cropped it would enhanced ,but that is just an opinion of taste .

But had to tell you important point, though I do not know if you been told or not ,I have not read the comments, that the man's ears (only) are with very much saturated color to reach the level of abnormal, they are exactly with the same color tone and saturation of the red leafs of the right tree ,both in the small and the larger version as it looks in my calibrated monitor.

a very easily correctable nit.

Beautiful composition Alf - especially when viewed larger!!! I almost feel I could walk into the image. Impressive Depth of Field. Truly has a wonderful 3D feel when viewed larger.

I rather like the tree on the left. The richness in colour ties in well with your friend.

Lovely work Alf.

Sincere regards, Gail

Terrific atmosphere here...a guy deep in thought looking into a sea of fog. When enlarged it comes more to life showing some fabulous tones and textures...really love it...congrats.

Alf, this is quite lovely. For me the solitary figure makes the image, though it would still be a wonderful landscape without him. I like how the bench seems to be in a large area of mud.  It's almost as if he is waiting for someone to appear from the recesses of the fog. Very nicely detailed throughout and the atmosphere is enhanced by the intertwining branches of the trees. Though this would also probably work very well in B/W, I like the touches of color among all the muted tones.

The framing and composition are excellent.  Magnificent red jewel and olive green against the softer mist.    I like the man on the bench and think he enhances the scene but don't feel that I'm looking through his eyes at all -- he's part of what there is to contemplate.  I agree that the ears are slightly distracting.  This has a fairytale quality to it

This is simply wonderful!  It's perfectly framed, with two large trees doing that very nicely, and the light fog in the background creates a great atmosphere.  An empty bench would have made for a striking photo.  But this shows how the inclusion of a person can affect the scene so very much, something I've known for years but only recently embraced.  Just think of all of the variations that might be possible by including different kinds of people -- each would tell a different story.  This is so perfectly titled for me -- it's just what I see and feel in the photograph.
