Taken at night from our Hotel balcony which was seven floors high. The

camera was hand held and I used the DX crop.and the following settings; f

2.8 1/25th sec. ISO1000. Thank you.

Unique shot that is well captured.  Even under these conditions, I'm impressed that you have taught your camera to focus on only the most interesting subject matter ;-)... Mike

..I really enjoy your amusing comments:-) But seriously this is technically a very difficult shot given the distance of seven floors, approx. 70 feet, and the light situation. Before she started her dance she was still and I switched the auto focus off after I focused on her upper part, I matched the settings I mentioned, to the speed that she was moving and as she was gyrating I clicked the shutter when she occupied the position I focused on. The resulting image is quite satisfactory as it is clearer in the center where she was least moving and her dress and hair on the periphery give the sense of motion.

Thanks for the explanation of the planning that went into this shot.  I knew it was not just a candid and my well captured comment still stands.  My lighthearted comment was a reflection of my enjoyment of this unique presentation and my belief that every photo of significance must be emotive to work.  Thanks for sharing....  Mike

Beautiful capture. I love the 'fluidity' of this shot Dimitris. Fine work, and thankyou for the explanation. Very well thought out.

Warmest regards, Gail

The way you captured the movement and expressed this movement in the photograph is great cinema - at least for me. Sit down, lean back and enjoy the image and your achievement. Compliments!

I too very much like the enchanting motion effect, Dimitris -- The swirling, rotating movement flows beautifully, enhanced by the little floating sparkles of the dancer's dress. There is a lovely translucency to the image which gives it somewhat of an abstract feel.. I like your square comp too, although I wonder what a slightly elongated format (with a tad more space, preferably on the lower LHS) would look like as well... best, Marjolein

Hi Marjolein nice to hear from you again, I used the DX crop for two reasons;  To increase the focal length and to avoid the balcony below, hence her shadow is cropped very tight. Anyway I think that the composition works quite well..:-).
