timzeipekis 5 Posted February 14, 2012 I really love the warm glow of the candles against the blue setting and I really do recommend viewing large to enjoy the decorative carving of the wood piece in the back. Interested in your thought process for the plane of focus or was it merely a light/aperture limitation? Either way, it works out beautifully. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 15, 2012 Glad to see you here, thanks for your nice impression. My focus was on the BG as I wanted to photo the decorated element with the candles light.(I hope you have finished with the queen....;-)) Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted February 15, 2012 you've captured ceremony, accessible ceremony with the clunky sort of placement of the candles left by church visitors in marble ornamental vessels and background of decorated wood. The cool dark blue aura of indoors dusk evokes a slow, contemplative cooling down time against the yellow-orange of the lights dancing like wax stars each with a story to tell, a prayer beckoning attention. I like that I can barely make up the cross in back -- it's there but subtle, not crushing, and you've neutralized the person on the right, making him part of the place. I have very fond memories of Jaffe -- sipping ice coffee in cafes in the evenings overlooking the sea, admiring the beach and rocks, walking in art galleries through alleys, sampling Arab street foods -- a lovely pic in a place that captures the soul - This is life Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 15, 2012 Lovely photo, Pnina. Although this is obviously a Christian church and not a mosque, I'm struck by the Arabic inscription on the candle bowl. Do you have any idea what it says and why it is in Arabic (At least I'm guessing it's Arabic) Link to comment
Bill J Boyd 64,576 Posted February 15, 2012 Pnina, I really like the image you have captured. The candle light and blue tones are well composed and this makes for a very lovely image. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 16, 2012 Donna, I like your written impressions, and what touched me is the feeling of your longing and memories of the place ,which I like as well ,and are very genuin of Jaffa and its surrounding.I hope you will come again!Jack, it is a Christian church, but all the psalms and wtitten verses were in 3 languages English, Hebrew, and Arabic, I did not ask why but I think that it is done in honore for the population mix of Jaffa and in honor as well for the different visitors coming in.Bill, thanks as well,I'm glad you liked the colors and form of the place, it is a very nice mix of colors inside.. gordonjb 10,860 Posted February 17, 2012 The cold blue white balance contrasts nicely with the warmth of the candles. In terms of composition this is very well conceived. I like the diagonal established by the candles receding into the scene and how that line balances with the uprights dividing the frame. The oof foreground adds to the sense of space. The overall effect is one of great depth. Link to comment
