pemongillo 0 Posted February 13, 2012 I love this image and that should be enough....but its not. Others don't seem to notice it. Any ideas on why they walk by this one? Thanks Link to comment
mukul_dube 357 Posted February 13, 2012 It shown an unexciting and unhappy reality. I notice also the odd pair of slippers. Might have been a better composition if your camera had been aimed a little more to the right. Link to comment
dom1 1 Posted February 13, 2012 I like it because it illustrates a life most of us know nothing about. All "human" and yet so different. But then, I have dogs and slippers too : ) Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 13, 2012 I can't speak to why someone would or could ignore this excellent documentary photograph, other than the current propensity to salivate over over-saturation and PhotoShop graphic art masquerading as photography. The b/w tones, the fine detail and composition are just right. A superb capture... Mike Link to comment
Bachir 0 Posted February 13, 2012 Paul, This is outstanding documentary photography (no shadow of a doubt), the monochrome choice is appropriate, the composition is good with rich and well detailed subjects for an interesting story. And like most of your work, one can appreciate the athmosphere and depth of your message which is inspiring as always. Very best wishes Bachir Link to comment

stp 6 Posted February 14, 2012 Paul, this is an exquisite B&W, and I can't see anything that you could have made better at the moment you were there. I agree with the assessment made by Mukul that it's an unexciting reality, plus many viewers may have a difficult time really relating to this slice of life in the rural portion of a third-world country. It's essentially the same reason why I don't relate to over-the-top glitziness and dazzling lights of high-powered fashion shoots of the rich and beautiful -- it's simply outside of my experience. But you've spent time in areas like this, relating to the people is part of your personality (and more so than the average viewer), so I'd expect you to have a deeper interest in this photograph compared to the average viewer.I'll bet that if one, two, or three children had been in the photo, interest in the photo among average viewers would be enhanced, and I think that just reflects human nature. pemongillo 0 Posted February 14, 2012 Thank you all for your comments. Stephen, I actuall have two lovely photos of three boys that lived near this woman and were hanging around because I was there. They had never seen a white person before. I'll post them at a later date. Heading to Death Valley for a few weeks tomorrow and will be off line. Link to comment
carla_vice 0 Posted February 15, 2012 Paul.. I too didnt rate this photo or comment as i was rating others. My reasons for overlooking this photo may be different from others but my feeling is this. I looked at this photo and saw it as a beautiful documentary. Something that not many of us have the chance to photograph. A gem. Technically bang on. Something you may see in a magazine.i expected to see at least 6 or 7 comments so i felt that you dont need to hear my input from a photographer who could never achieve what you have achieved here. Enjoy Death Valley. It is a photographers dream. Pahrump is a unique town to drive thru as well. I look forward to seeing your desert shots ..... Carla Link to comment
