For my black and white photography class, I had to critique three photographs.

I was drawn to this photograph because of the look in the monkey's eyes. The photographer notes that the look in his/her eyes looks like a longing for freedom. I think that the message in this photo is that it isn't fair to keep a living thing locked up like that. The elements of this photo that help convey that message are fencing and the fact that you can tell the monkey is caught behind it. I like the way he focused very clearly on the monkey, but that the fence is unfocused. I also like the way he captured the monkey looking away from the camera, as if it is thinking about something greater and also ignoring the fact that it is being watched. I like the way the light is hitting the monkey's eyes as well.
