This is a tribute to Gary Larson, cartoonist, for his special skills in writing captions for his cartoons.

I have attempted to learn from him; viz, the above.

[non-USA viewers, Larson's work is VERY familiar to most adult American newspaper readers.  You might Google his name to find his work, which I think would be well rewarded.  His work is found in every [remaining] bookstore in America and sells exceedingly well.  Larson has a singular, different and somewhat macabre view of life, sometimes from the amoebic level or higher]

She is threatening the person nearest, wearing the black knit hat, who already has ducked away from the camera on seeing the rubber band aimed at her.

The college age male, farthest, is caught here as he starts to look away, wary of the 'SNAP' of the rubber band, which already has been released by this woman, right, once before.

A color capture shows the relationship of the individuals better; they're all wearing distinctively colored outerwear, and the walls have color as well as good colors in the window reflections.

Even the rubber band is red.

If I had it to do over again, after web posting, I think I'd choose to post the color version, though black and white is traditional for 'street'.

Palpable tension, though laced with humor... their smiles really dissipate our concerns... a sweet moment between friends, i'd imagine: the tattooed one wants her to admit or accept something...

i'll have to accept your word that the one turned away from us is a male...

Over the years, I've stumbled on this as a student hangout for more than one school/university, upstairs where it's largely unsupervised and couples smooch, friends interact, and people sip their coffees, teas, colas, and eat their burgers -- and just meet their friends and hang out.

They let their hair down and seldom notice me, unless I'm dragging around conspicuous pro equipment, and even then, it's their territory, they have other things to do, I'm pretty inconspicuous, as I have some comestible on my table and my camera 'appears' not to be used, until 'the moment' and almost always subject are too busy to notice then.

It's a favorite place of mine for that reason, plus it's also warm, a reason also they hang out there, and air conditioned in summer, too.

Your analysis is able, so I won't comment further, except to endorse it.

Sadly, I should have posted in color, but now won't change horses in midstream.  Far in the future, wait for the color posting, here or elsewhere.  It may be somewhat clear and so, better.
